Thank you, 2012 - A year of Breakthroughs!

The year 2012 was a year of breakthroughs.  It wasn’t all rainbows, all bed of roses, and all laughter and joy.  In fact, it was busy, full of  activities. Too,  we had our share of sorrows and pain,  however, victorious in every way, all by God’s grace and favor.
For a long time we have prayed for Bim to find a stable  and permanent employment.  Just as he was about to turn 50 in April (his jubilee year), God had granted “our” wish.  He now works for TransPerth as a bus driver, a job that he truly enjoys.  He trained for a while to get himself qualified for an HR license and passed the driving assessment with flying colors.

CJ, now on to his 3rd year in MotorSports Engineering continues to work part time as a removalist (Bim's former business) and a part time university student.  A fine young and dedicated man, he is committed to fulfill his dream to someday finish a double degree in  MotorSports and Mechanical Engineering.
(CJ, as a removalist and Jed, as a Heavy Metal Fabricator-
both engineers in the making!)

Jed had commenced his apprenticeship in Heavy Metal Fabrication Engineering early this year.  Our big surprise was when his professor announced the news to us that  amongst the new trainees in his class, he was commended to be the best in his work.  His employer loves him as much.  Being his first year in apprenticeship, he is oftentimes given the task of supervising his division; quite a high commendation on his first year of training.
Daisy finished her 8th year with a loud bang having to earn the highest academic (Principal’s Award) achievement and honors in Athletics Award as Rookie of the Year.  She officially starts high school in the coming year in a specialists/extension program: a group of students who demonstrates the highest standards of achievement and participation.

Caila, our sweetest Little Peanut, likewise finished the year with a Principal’s Award having to achieve high standards in academics in her class.  She was commended by her peers and teachers to be the most well-behaved, well-mannered, and most-spirited.

I continue to work in the hospital twice and in the nursing home near my home 5-6  times a fortnight as a Supervising/Coordinator/Clinical Nurse role in the areas  of specialty in Geriatrics and Continence; Plastics, Urology and ENT.  It is challenging in a way as I am tasked to oversee and making sure quality nursing care is delivered to the residents/patients.

Bim’s brother, Gerro, came to visit us from the Philippines in September-October.  The two brothers had not seen each other for almost 4 years.  We took him around the Perth region and up to the Avon Valley. Gerro’s visit was one that we cannot forget.

I went home to the Philippines for my mother’s homegoing in November.  My siblings abroad came home as well and we're all reunited after about 9 years.  It was a sad time for us but God’s grace was sufficient to comfort us in our most deepest sorrow.  I miss my mom so much.  However, knowing that she is now in a better place, gives me peace on her passing.

We are approaching our second year  in our little piece of paradise, now we call home in May.  This gift of a dwelling place is haven for us.  This year, we’ve added the deck and extension to the alfresco area, and some other improvements in the house.  There is still a lot to do but we will take it up as we go.

We managed to do a short trip up north in Geraldton and Kalbarri during the Holy Week holidays.  On some weekends, Bim and his bike mates went down south around the areas of Pemberton to explore the bike trails and outback of Western Australia.

(Bim with bike mates one weekend)

My small group composed of young mothers and engaged women, meet a fortnight to pray and soak in God's word.  A venue where we can just put our hair down and vent out frustrations with family and work.  A safe place to be, a fellowship of women committed to God's word and living it out everyday.
(the women in my small group- with some of their partners and children)

It’s been a busy year alright.  We saw God’s hand in every successes and even in our troubles this year.  My heart rejoices that when trouble comes, I see my family all the more hanging on to our faith in the God that we serve.  That is more than I can ask for… indeed, it was a year of breakthroughs.
I praise God for the year 2012.  We welcome 2013 with open hearts.  Again, God’s mercy is all sufficient and new each day!  Looking forward to what our good Lord has in store for us this year!
Shalom!

Imagine

Imagine Christmas is over..... all the programs have been performed...all the pictures have been taken. The carolers are done singing...the holiday parties have come and gone. The presents are unwrapped and all the big dinners have all been eaten. The christmas music is turned off. The families headed back home. Someone from work is on the phone. The kids have a practice to get to. The house needs to be cleaned. The bills need to be paid. The groceries are running low. The stock market is still down... and up... and down. The tv is on... the news is still worrisome. Life just keeps going as if Christmas never happened.

But it did happen. Look around... the church is full of family, and friends, and laughter because the baby is still the Saviour. And the Saviour is still the gift held out to a world still looking for pure joy... the same earth we live still longs for peace.

But we have the "hope".... we can sing in the midst of.... and wonder of the God who gave His only son... and the Son who gave His life to add us to his family and one day, welcome us HOME.

Imagine, christmas is over. But remember, it really happened.... and it changed everything.

Wishing you and your family the timeless treasures of Christ....the gift of good health, the peace of mind and heart, the harmony and warmth of home, the love of family and the company of good friends.

A blessed & joyous New Year from our home to yours!

Family Newsletter, Christmas 2008

Bim continues to serve as full time staff in our church and loves every bit of it. Aside from coordinating the Small Group Ministry, he has found many new challenges and opportunities in his new assignment as overseer of our 10:15 am Sunday Service with a congregation of about 200. He tries to stay fit by having regular visits to the gym with eldest son, CJ.

Jenny became a registered nurse and began her professional practice early this year. In her short stint with the acute hospital experience as an OR nurse, she was promoted from trainee to reliever status. In October, her application was approved by the nurse's board to become a professional nurse in Australia.

CJ, turning 16 by January, has grown to be a handsome man. He will be graduating from high school come March and wants to become an aircraft mechanic someday. His love for sports, particularly basketball, is his favorite pastime.

Jed, 14, loves playing his guitar and soccer is his favorite sport. He is a sophomore and likes preserving insects and even snakes! He has emerged with a well rounded personality and is a friend to everyone. He is active with the church’s youth ministry.

Daisy will be 10 in February. Her dream to become a chef someday remains and she wishes to put up her own restaurant offering the family's favorite dishes in the menu. Like Jenny, she has developed a love for crafts. She can cross stitch and is learning to weave.

Caila, 6, our little one, has began to read; it’s been her favorite thing to do. She is very fond of drawing and writing letters to Mom and Pop. She excels in her school work and is praised by her teachers.

Jenny will commence her training on January 5 with the Nurses Board in Perth, Western Australia and will begin her nursing practice as soon as she is granted a working visa. If all goes well, Bim and the children will follow as early as May. This journey has been traveled in faith. As of this writing, Jenny has not received her visa and she has a plane to catch on January 1! We are hoping for God’s best whatever the outcome is and you will surely know in our next letter.

May your 2009 be a year of blessing!

All our love,

Bim and Jenny

Feasting with "Immensely" Sweet

We received from family and friends, among others... loads of chocolate crinkles, some unusual fruits coming from god knows where, and a variety of scrumptious, delectable, to die-for pastries and sweets this Christmas. They're just too good not to make them known here.
First, let me introduce to you, Chocolate Struffles. Baked by Jemjem, the beauteous daughter of my very good friend who owns Lola’s Bakeshop. They have branches at SM, Lopue’s East and Mandalagan. The whole thing is just delectable. Chewy and mouth-watering! Actually, it’s a great find!

Second, our cousin H, who is a superb chef gave us her choco chip cookies. Crammed with white and brown chips, exceptionally yummy and dreadfully moist! Yum… yum big time!

Third, my bestfriend Yo’s Chocolate Cake. Oh boy, I never had so moist, so deadly, and so sinful a choco cake ever!
Fourth, Carrot cake by KusinaMia given to us by our cousins, Ro and Yenne. Best with afternoon tea. Just gorgeous! Gorgeous!

Fifth, a variety of melodious squares from JD Bakeshop, Iloilo …. truffle bars, macapuno bars, tropical bars, chocofudge, revel bar, espresso, choco chewies, and oatmeal. All are heavenly!!! Sixth, homemade Almond Rocca from Jing and Manong Dan…… let the pictures speak for itself! Our sweet teeth aches for it!

Seventh, Baguio’s the ever exquisite! Mountainmaid (Good Shephered products) Peanut Brittle and Strawberry Jam from Tom and Grace. Always have been and will forever be my family's front runner!
Now, would you say, I haven’t gained a bit?

Our 16th Christmas

December 27, 2007
(Our 16th Christmas)

I’m so glad for Christmas. My brother and his family stayed with us for two nights over the holidays. The Salvador reunion was held in our house. After all, Christmas is about loved ones and special friends coming together. The busyness of it all was all worth it.

We tried to make the kids endure a bit by not opening their gifts before christmas. However, we allowed them some grace by letting them open one gift a day, 5 days before Christmas eve. Through the years, we have learned that we can alter some traditional rituals..

The kids received wonderful gifts from their grandparents, aunts and uncles, and godparents, mostly cash, which they prefer. So with our Christmas blessings, we took advantage of the malls’ year-end sale. CJ went wild with new clothes while Jed, got himself a bunch of football/soccer gear and other little stuff. Daisy is into watercolor painting so she bought painting materials and new clothes. Kay bought a giant stuffed dog which she named “Fluffy”.

Bim and I will take our yearly get-away on the 29th. We really do not know where we are going as of yet. We might take a short trip to San Carlos or Mt. Canlaon. Sometimes it's better to set off without plans and just go where the wind blows. We really look forward to a time of adventure, just the two of us.

Our plans for New Zealand is on-going. We are waiting upon God’s right timing. I pray 2008 will be the year for that.

We wish for more peace and a simpler life in the coming year as we continue to savor God's daily faithfulness upon my family. I feel it in my heart that the best is yet to come. We too, wish you and your family well. We further bless you with a double portion of His amazing grace in the coming year.

We miss you and hoping to hear from you soon!

Much love,
Jenny with Bim, CJ, Jed, Daisy and Kay

Decorating Christmas

My sister-in-law sent me this site: http://www.storyofstuff.com/ (share this with friends and show to your children), and it just confirms my going simple this Christmas. It's a story about over-consumption, as well as a great lesson in ecology, economics, geopolitics, psychology, ethics - My simple interpretation of this is of man’s hunger for possession of material things and its waste.

Possessions may capture the heart, but they fail to nourish the soul. Our passion for material things far exceeds our compassion for others. This materialism leads to a spiritual emptiness that can't be filled by the addiction of consumerism.

You see, I’m one of those Christmas freaks. Every year, I really get crazy about Christmas: I change styles every year such as changing motifs. I make my own Christmas tree decors according to the motif that year. I start making stuff by October up to the end of November. My Christmas "things" build up through the years and so the house is cramped with either red, green and gold. It’s always a busy time for me and more often than not, instead of really enjoying the real essence of the season, I would end up burned-out and empty.

As I was browsing some entries in my journal from years ago, I found these to do lists, among others:
- Finish decorating by end of November
- Finish all handmade Christmas decors: this year’s motif: indigenous
- Make homemade Christmas gifts: this year: “sinamak”
- Bake three kinds of cakes: carrot, butter and mocha
- Write Christmas newsletter and print Christmas cards
- Finish Christmas shopping early
- Give handmade/homemade gifts to all office staff, school teachers, etc
- Bring out Christmas curtains, table runners, coasters, placemats, napkins, etc
- Buy 1500 Christmas lights (no colored lights)
- Do this….. do that….

The list is endless.

Yesterday, I was thinking of decorating the Christmas tree the simplest way so I went to the market with an impossible budget. Why impossible? Because I knew it’s never enough. But God saw me through. I went to the fabric store and bought only a couple yards of silk cloth of gold and copper. I didn’t know what to do with it until I found myself cutting the cloth in strips of 2 inches in width and made bows and connected them to make a garland. I added some glittered twigs aside from the Christmas lights. It turned out to be very, very nice. Simple. My husband even said it’s the best Christmas tree ever.

My favorite portraits of a godly woman in the Bible says, "she can laugh at the days to come," (Proverbs 31:25). She was filled with such incredible joy not because life was perfect but simply because she had decided to make laughter, peace, and true happiness the hallmark of her life. Proverbs 31:30 goes on to say this was a woman to be praised because she so reverenced God in the shrine of her heart that she knew without a doubt, He was enough.

I have decided in my heart to go simple this holiday season. I’m decorating my heart by buying less, loving much, hugging tighter, giving more, laughing harder, enjoying life and celebrating Jesus!

Indeed, Jesus is enough.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 (NIV)

Our 15th Christmas

December Family Newsletter
Our 15th Christmas, 2006

Warm greetings in Jesus name!

“To God be the glory!” There truly is no other way to live life but to live it for His glory.
Our four lovely children are a blessing indeed, CJ (13), Jed (12), Daisy (7), and Kay (4). The first three are in school while Caila will start school next year. They are all healthy, smart, well-behaved, and have earned not only academic awards but character awards as well. It is only by God’s grace that they have turned out the way they have and we as parents delight in them.
CJ (Christopher Julian) loves badminton and is “Captain” of their school basketball team. He is about Bim’s height now with a 12 shoe size! Jed (Christian Jared) enjoys badminton and soccer and has “tons” of friends. Both boys are very active and excel in sports activities. Daisy (Cyra Jannela) loves to be a chef or a baker someday. She is fond of identifying ingredients of the food that she eats. Her dream is to bake the best chocochip cookies in the world! She learned to ride a bike this year and is saving all her Christmas money for a new one. Kay (Caila Jazper) is talkative and is just a darling. She loves to draw, write and create stuff out of paper. She home schools with Mom and is excited to start Kindergarten next school year.
Jenny is in school too, taking up a nursing course as her second degree and will graduate by March 2007. She will immediately review in April for the June local boards. She has been very much involved in Medical Missions twice this year serving to about 13,000 less privileged people in Kabankalan and in Bacolod.
Bim has been a full-time staff member of the Baptist Conference Church of Bacolod since 1998 and tasked to head the Membership department and Small group ministry. He loves to ride his motorcycle and enjoys leading a group of motorcycle enthusiasts for rides and fellowship as often as possible.
It’s been a great year for us. God has never failed to provide for our needs and much more. In His time, He makes all things beautiful!
Blessings from our home to yours!
